Often the biggest problem with standard kitchen cabinets in the home is the inefficient use of space.

Old kitchen cabinets and shelves that have been installed by the builder are often spaced too far apart, leaving wasted space between stored goods and other shelves. Here are some helpful hints to assist in tackling this wasted space and make cabinets 100 percent more efficient.

When choosing an organizer, keep in mind that you want to divide the space. A free-standing stacking shelf placed on the current shelf gives you two complete shelves, where before you had only one. A much more efficient use of your space!

When organizing cabinets, you’ll find that you’ll save yourself a great deal of time (and even money) if everything is easily accessible. You don’t have to spend hours searching for that box of cornstarch you know you had somewhere and you won’t have to go out to buy a new box. A good idea is to group like items together in small bins and label the contents or even select bins that you can see through for quick identification.

Look for products that are specifically designed to tackle the hard-to-organize items in a kitchen pantry. Choose racks to keep the lids to your pots and pans (and even plastic food storage containers) under control. Your lids will be easily accessible and won’t spill out each time you open the cabinet.

Canned goods can pose problems in your cabinets. Because of the depth of the shelves, stacking the cans one in front of the other is just not practical! You will forget what you’ve got stored in the back because you can’t see it. Choose a tiered shelf organizer that provides you with a full view of your canned goods.

Many customers complain that spice storage is the biggest problem in their kitchen cabinets. Spices used most frequently can be stored on a countertop spice rack. To preserve the freshness of spices used less frequently, store them in a cool, dark place, preferably away from the stovetop.

Many times there is wasted space because cabinets are built so deep. A quick and easy solution to cavernous cabinets is to add sliding drawers. Made in a variety of sizes and styles, sliding drawers are mounted to the manufactured shelf and rest on gliders so that they can be easily accessed. These allow you to bring the back of the cabinet up front and center.

If you have a door in your pantry or kitchen area, don’t neglect that often wasted space. The system’s flexible baskets provide you with extra storage space for canned goods and other dry foods, cleaning supplies and even bottles of soda! The rack will ease the overcrowding in your cabinets and make it possible to have everything at your fingertips.
