Meet Nutmeg, a 31-year-old cat who is a serious contender to become the world’s oldest living cat. To get the picture how old Nutmeg really is, let’s just say that if he was human, he would be 141 years old.
His owners, Liz and Ian Finlay, say that Nutmeg is an absolute boss in the house. Nutmeg was a stray cat when his current loving owners took him from the street back in 1990. They then took him to the vet and they found out that Nutmeg is at least 5 years old. That makes him 31 now, but in order to be certified as the oldest living cat, his owners have to show his original papers and birth certificate. That will be rather hard to do since he was a stray cat, but they’re working on it.
Liz and Ian have a pretty interesting theory that could explain how Nutmeg is managing to stay vital all these years. “He is not our cat, we are his humans and he never lets us forget that. Maybe that is the secret to his long and happy life”, says the couple.
Oldest cat ever recorded was Creme Puff, who died aged 38 years and 3 days.
