Man Lists ‘Jaw-Dropping’ 3,133-Piece Video Game Collection for $150K on eBay

A Massachusetts man has decided to part ways with his colossal video game collection that he started as a kid 27 years ago.

John, 30, who also goes by the username “mywholevideogamecollection” on eBay, has placed an assortment of 3,133 games on the e-commerce site for a whopping price tag of $150,000.

“I’d definitely be shocked [if it sells] and definitely be sad at the same time,” John told ABC News today. “Even though it’s a lot of money, the memories are something I could never get back again. For me, if they all went at the same time, it’d be really easy — easier than it would be if I had to pack them individually and say goodbye 3,133 times.”

John said he’s been collecting video games ever since he received Mario Bros/Dunk Hunt in 1989 at the age of 4.

“I’ve been a collector pretty much my whole life,” he said. “When I was young, my uncle bought us a lot of comic books and trading cards and he always said things are worth a lot more in its original packaging. A lot of people’s downfall is they either trade in, or sell their stuff, and I’ve never done that. Everything I have is from when I was a kid, until now.”

John added: “Everybody that comes to my house and walks into the room, their jaws drop. Their eyes open up and they’re speechless.”

Also included in the “Buy it Now” price are 25 video game consoles including a few duplicates, like Nintendo 64 in various colors. All games are fully functioning and in “near mint condition” with the exception of some cases being a little scratched up, John said.

In addition to some newer, popular games on systems like Xbox 360, John’s collection also includes classic and hard-to-find cartridges like “The Flintstones,” “Donkey Kong Jr. Math” “Jack Bros.” and his complete, 296-piece Nintendo 64 set. He is one game shy of the original Nintendo games and has tried to obtain as many video games as possible to complete the lot, he said.

“For PS2, I have 350 games, but there are 1,800,” John said. “For the Sega Master, I have 45 out of 95. For the most part, I never really got a chance to complete them.”

John keeps all 3,133 games in alphabetical order inside two separate rooms of his house.

John said he’s received several inquiries since listing the ad.

“I got a guy from Dubai who was willing to fly out here, help me pack everything up and buy my collection,” he said. “It was a high offer, but it was still a good amount short of what I would settle for.”

“I know it’s a big price tag, but people can send me their best offers too,” John added. “People that didn’t go from yard sale to yard sale or rental shop as as a kid, they just buy it and it’s done. You buy my collection and you can add onto that. A lot of the stuff is in really good shape. If it sells, it sells. I’ll be sad to see it go, but if it doesn’t, then it stays where it is. I’ve got twin boys. [If it sells], I would go buy a vacation home.”

John’s listing ends on April 2 at 7:43 p.m. ET. He said his favorite games in the collection are the “Ninja Turtles” series, “Mario Bros. 3” and “Contra.”
