“The Hive” Sculpture Controlled by Actual Be
The aim of the artist is to let visitors connect with nature
Do you know the importance of bees in the world? As bees are responsible for pollinating 70 types of the crops we eat, we might just as well say that without them , our chances of survival are scarce. Understanding the critical role of bees, the British artist Wolfgang Buttress created The Hive – a pavilion placed in the Kew Gardens which opened this June and will remain exhibited for 18 months. The Hive is a luxurious investment costing the organizer a large two-year chunk of the budget. The aim of the artist is to let visitors connect with nature, particularly those living in the cities. From afar the sculpture looks like a swarm of bees. Once closer, the structure looks like a beehive whose light and sound is controlled by the buzz of an actual beehive located in the Royal Botanical Gardens and connected to it.
